About the Competition Teams Fund
The Competition Teams Fund at the School of Aeronautics helps to offset costs incurred by students while competing as members of the following three teams:
National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Team
The National Intercollegiate Flight Association Team competes yearly against other universities from around the nation in a wide range of aeronautics events, ranging from ground knowledge to flight skills. We’re the 18x region X winners and have had many individuals place highly at the national competition, including Flight Instructor of the Year. The University has won the Loening Trophy 4 times, representing a flight school that excels in excellence and innovation in flight training. Being a part of the NIFA teams gives students not only the chance to shine the light of Christ to other college students, but gives an opportunity for the team members to develop professionally as the next generation of aviation leaders.
Maintenance Competition Team
A select team of students from the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Program (AMTP) will compete on an international stage at the annual Aerospace Maintenance Council competition. Last year the LU team placed 3rd in the School Category and 17th overall out of 90 teams, which included the best-of-the-best professional mechanics from major airlines, military, and other aircraft maintenance organizations. This year’s event will take place in Atlanta Georgia. Your gift to the Annual Fund will help pay for travel expenses, team apparel, and registration fees for the competition.
Liberty Belles Air Race Classic Competition Team
The Liberty Belles Air Race Classic Competition Team participates annually in the Women’s Air Race Classic, which is a competitive cross-country race flown only by women. During the race, the teams compete against other collegiate and independent teams, all with vastly different experience levels and backgrounds. The Race gives The Belles an opportunity to grow in their aviator and leadership skills and a chance to shine the light of Jesus to other participants and share His gospel with them.
